In the northwest corner of Region 5, Todd County is considered the place where the “forest meets the prairie.” Todd County is known for reasonable property taxes and small-town values. The county is made up of 13 cities and 28 townships, with Long Prairie as the county seat. Agriculture is a major industry in Todd County, but there are a number of other sectors that make up the economy. A major employer in Todd County is Dan’s Prize a meat packing company that has been around over 30 years. They employ a diverse workforce from Long Prairie and the surrounding area. Todd County also boasts farmer’s markets in the spring, summer and fall allowing easy access to health food options.
Recreational opportunities are many with Todd County’s 27,000 acres of lakes. Each city in Todd County boasts a number of parks. Some of the favorites include Dower Lake Recreation Area in Staples, with camping, swimming and hiking nature trails; and Big Birch State Park near Grey Eagle.
Todd County is at the true geographical center of Minnesota and a great place to settle and raise a family.
