Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Pinterest, and LinkedIn have become an integral part of an online job search. However, be alert to online job scams. Some experts say for every one legitimate job that's available, there are at least 60 scams.
Here are some tactics scammers use and steps you can take to avoid being scammed.
The use of social media for job recruitment is growing as well. Sixty percent of employers screen job candidates via social media, compared with 22 percent in 2008, according to CareerBuilder Research.
What are employers scanning for? Employers are looking for red flags such as:
- Inappropriate photographs, videos or information
- Evidence of a candidate drinking or using drugs
- A pattern of bad-mouthing a previous employer or co-workers
- Poor communication skills
Be wary about how much personal information you post on social media.
