There are 127 lakes within a ten mile radius of Hackensack. For a place truly in the middle of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes Hackensack is the place to be. For winter fun, Foot Hills State Forest has winter skiing. For utility vehicle riding, Spider Lake has miles and miles of trails. The Chippewa National Forest was the first forest established east of the Mississippi River in 1908. It has 300 miles of hiking trails and fun for all seasons. Biking, swimming, skiing the national forest has it all.

For outdoor enthusiasts there's even more in Hackensack! The North Country Trail runs right through the area. The Deep Portage Learning Center has ten square miles of outdoor classroom. The summer programs at the learning center include archery, canoeing, hiking, big hike and climbing wall to name a few. The country's longest paved rail biking trail goes right through Hackensack. It's 115 miles of biking beauty! There's even a kids fishing contest every Tuesday in the summer. Back to Hack is held in February and is a true celebration of winter fun. There's also Sweetheart days in February and the Hackensack Chainsaw event in September. Natural beauty in lake country-Hackensack has it all!
