Cuyuna-Past, Present and Future

Monday, September 18, 2017

The small town of Cuyuna has a lot to reflect on in its past and a lot to look forward to for the future. Cuyuna has a rich history dating back to 1908, and 1910 when it was actually platted. Near the Kennedy Iron Ore Mine the city was booming by the end of 1910, it had all the necessities for businesses of that time and even more.

The pristine lakes and old growth forests are a draw to this area for residents and visitors alike. Former mining excavation areas have made way for deep water trout fishing opportunities. There's also lots of opportunity for biking in the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area. A lot of trails are for mountain bike enthusiasts, but there are also easier trails and paved trails for beginners. In 2014, the trails were named for the best mountain biking in Minnesota. In the winter months come enjoy snowmobiling the many miles of local trails.

The Brainerd airport and high school, and Crosby/Ironton hospital are both near enough to be convenient for Cuyuna residents and visitors.  Cuyuna has an interesting history with a lot of natural beauty and places to visit! Come visit!
